Light Rain Expected in 17 Central Java Regions Until Monday (17/8) Early Morning
Some areas, especially mountainous and highland regions of Central Java, are likely to experience light, uneven rain until Monday (17/8) early morning, with temperatures feeling warmer than before.
Light, uneven rain is expected to fall in 17 areas of Central Java from Sunday (16/8) evening until Monday (17/8) early morning. Mountainous and highland areas that had previously felt bitterly cold due to the ongoing dry season are becoming warmer.
“Winds are blowing from the northeast to the southwest at speeds of 3–20 kilometres per hour, air temperatures range from 14–30 degrees Celsius, and humidity is between 75 and 95 percent,” said Winda Ratri, forecaster at the BMKG Ahmad Yani Meteorological Station in Semarang, on Sunday (16/8) evening.
The areas of Central Java likely to see light rain, according to Winda Ratri, are Wonosobo, Mungkid, Boyolali, Pati, Jepara, Demak, Temanggung, Kendal, Batang, Pemalang, Brebes, Magelang, Salatiga, Semarang, Pekalongan, Tegal and Ambarawa, while other areas will be cloudy.
Meanwhile, in the northern waters of Central Java, wave heights of 1.25–2.5 metres are occurring in several areas, namely the eastern and western parts of Karimunjawa, Jepara and Pati–Rembang. In the southern waters, high waves of 1.25–2.5 metres are also occurring along the coast from Cilacap to Purworejo.
“These wave heights pose a risk to shipping activities, especially fishing boats and barges, when wind speeds exceed 15 knots,” said Wahyu Sri Mulyani, forecaster at the BMKG Tanjung Emas Maritime Station in Semarang.
Meanwhile, tidal flooding in the northern waters of Central Java, according to Wahyu Sri Mulyani, is likely to occur again on Monday (17/8) from 07.00 to 11.00 WIB with a maximum height of 0.8 metres. This phenomenon is causing flooding in coastal areas in several parts of the north coast that is difficult to recede.
The flooding caused by the high tide, Wahyu Sri Mulyani continued, is disrupting residents’ activities such as transport, loading and unloading of goods at ports, inland fisheries and salt farming in several areas along the north coast of Central Java from Brebes to Rembang.
