Light Rain and Grey Skies Mark Final Resting Place of Try Sutrisno at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery

JAKARTA—Light rain fell briefly during a military ceremony accompanying the funeral of General (retired) Try Sutrisno, Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, at Taman Makam Pahlawan (Heroes Cemetery) Kalibata in South Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Grey skies added to the solemn atmosphere as final respects were paid to the late dignitary.

According to Kompas.com’s observations at the location, rain briefly poured over the cemetery grounds during the ceremony proceedings.

Thunder sounded occasionally from a distance. However, the weather did not disrupt the funeral procession.

Shortly afterwards, the rain subsided.

The sky remained grey as President Prabowo Subianto, acting as ceremony inspector, stepped forward to the grave to lay a floral wreath.

That moment occurred in silence.

The atmosphere grew more reverent as trumpet notes sounded during the final respects.

All mourners stood upright, giving military salutes beneath the overcast sky.

The remains of Try Sutrisno arrived at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in a coffin draped with the red and white Indonesian flag and received by TNI personnel from the Presidential Security Detail unit.

The funeral cortège entered the cemetery complex accompanied by a marching band drumline and ceremonial rifle salutes as a form of military honour.

The ceremony culminated with the reading of the apel persada statement by President Prabowo Subianto as ceremony inspector.

“I, as President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the nation and the Indonesian National Armed Forces, hereby present to Mother Earth the soul, body and services of the late general,” Prabowo declared loudly.
