Lifters upbeat on winning in SEA Games

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia is optimistic to be the overall champion for weightlifting in the Kuala Lumpur 2001 South East Asian (SEA) Games, an official revealed on Tuesday.

"Indonesian weightlifters will dominate the games considering the current condition in the ASEAN countries," executive chairman of the Indonesian Weightlifting, Powerlifting and Bodybuilding Association (PABBSI) Col. Gandrung was quoted as saying by Antara news agency on Tuesday.

"Currently, we are preparing 30 athletes of both sexes for the games," he added.

The Kuala Lumpur will staged eight men's events and four women's events.

"We expect to get seven or eight gold medals out of the 12 medals. I think that's not bad," said Gandrung. (nvn)
