Life rafts for flood-prone areas

JAKARTA (JP): Deputy Governor for people's welfare RS Museno
has said that the city administration will make life rafts
available to subdistricts which are prone to flooding.

The life rafts will be invaluable to the people in times of
severe and unexpected flooding, he said. But he could not say how
many of the devices would be bought.

In a related development, Governor Surjadi Soedirdja warned
the residents not to rebuild houses destroyed by the recent
floods.

Surjadi said that further heavy floods may occur soon. He also
asked subordinates, including district and subdistrict heads to
be more alert and ready to help the residents in case of floods.

Meanwhile, the head of meteorological and geophysics agency,
Karyoto has warned that heavy downpours are forecast for Java and
Jakarta next month. (sur)
