Life Insurance Premium Income Rises 8.2%, Reaching Rp94.75 Trillion
The Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI) recorded an 8.2% year-on-year (yoy) increase in premium income during the first half of 2026.
AAJI Board Chairman Albertus Wiroyo Karsono said total premium income for the life insurance industry reached Rp94.75 trillion. Alongside this, the number of policies also grew by 7.7% to 22.44 million policies.
In terms of new business growth, unit-linked products recorded the most substantial increase, rising 34.5% yoy to Rp19.78 trillion. Meanwhile, traditional products grew by 14.2% yoy to Rp37.97 trillion.
“This new business growth shows that demand for new protection continues to grow and the public is still seeking insurance solutions that suit their financial conditions and objectives,” Albertus said at a press conference at the Grha AAJI office in Jakarta on Monday (31/8/2026).
Total industry income in June 2026 was recorded at Rp96.39 trillion, down 11.2% yoy. Meanwhile, the industry’s investment results showed a negative Rp2.47 trillion.
On the same occasion, AAJI Head of Human Resources Development and Training (Center of Excellence) Freddy Thamrin said that as of June 2026, the life insurance industry had paid claims amounting to Rp75.57 trillion, up 4.3% yoy, with 5.01 million beneficiaries. Previously, total claims were recorded at Rp72.47 trillion.
When broken down by risk benefit, death claim payments reached Rp6.5 trillion, an increase of 25.5% yoy. Health claims reached Rp13.58 trillion, up 11.3% yoy, while other claims were recorded at approximately Rp2.51 trillion, down 22.1% yoy.
