Licenses of PJTKIs revoked

JAKARTA: The Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration has
revoked the business permits of 36 labor recruitment agencies
(PJTKIs) in the past 18 months for violating various manpower
rules, including falsifying signatures and having no clear
activities or business premises.

"We hope that only professional labor recruitment agencies
that meet the requirements to send Indonesian workers abroad can
operate," manpower and transmigration minister Jacob Nuwa Wea was
quoted by Antara as saying in Bengkulu on Sunday.

PJTKIs are also required to have training centers.

Jacob went on to say that for the time being the government
had stopped sending workers abroad because of many problems
facing Indonesian workers in receiving countries.

"We want to improve the quality and skills of Indonesian
workers, particularly the mastery of a foreign language, before
sending them abroad," he said.

He also complained about various levies imposed on Indonesian
workers wishing to seek employment abroad, prompting them to sell
their belongings like land and houses to finance their departure.
