Licence Revoked in 2017, Samin Tan's Company Allegedly Continued Coal Mining
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has uncovered that a mining company owned by Samin Tan, PT Asmin Koalindo Tuhup (AKT), continued to operate despite its licence being revoked since 2017.
Director of Investigation for the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Syarief Sulaeman stated that PT AKT continued to sell coal illegally for eight years.
PT AKT previously operated under a Coal Mining Business Work Agreement (PKP2B).
After the licence was revoked, PT AKT is alleged to have continued mining and selling coal using invalid licence documents.
“Such activities are suspected to have involved rogue state officials with authority in mining supervision,” he explained.
The state is suspected to have suffered losses as a result of these actions. However, the exact amount of the losses is still being calculated by auditors from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).
For these actions, Samin Tan has been designated as a suspect in mining corruption and immediately detained at the Salemba Detention Centre branch of the AGO.
Investigators have also conducted searches in several regions, namely West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan. The search process is still ongoing, particularly in Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan.
