Liberian national shot dead

JAKARTA (JP): A Liberian national was shot dead in Pulo Mas in East Jakarta on Wednesday night, police said.

Jakarta Police chief of detectives Sr. Comr. Adang Rochyana identified the victim as Steven Samuel.

Samuel was first arrested at Hotel Pardede on Jl. Raden Saleh, Central Jakarta, together with his girlfriend, Yani. The police found 100 grams of heroin in her possession.

Adang said Samuel told the police that he got the heroin from a supplier in Pulo Mas in East Jakarta.

The police then took Samuel and Yani to Pulo Mas, but upon reaching Pulo Mas, Samuel tried to escape. The police fired two warning shots which the victim failed to heed, forcing police to shoot him dead. (ylt)
