Lhasa — Monday (16 February) marked Chinese New Year's Eve, which fell one day earlier than Gutu Eve in the Tibetan calendar this year. The Gutu Eve tradition serves as the prelude to Losar, the Tibetan New Year and the most important celebration in the Tibetan calendar.

Losar is a time for family gatherings. The festival is marked by religious ceremonies, lengthy prayers, horse racing, family reunions and feasts.

The city of Lhasa hosted horse riding performances and ethnic horse racing on Friday (20 February), the fourth day of the Year of the Horse and the third day of the Tibetan New Year, showcasing extraordinary traditional skills and captivating spectacles for audiences.
