LGBT Prevention Curriculum to be Coordinated Across Ministries, Says PMK

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs (Menko PMK) Pratikno has confirmed that his ministry will oversee the plan to formulate a curriculum on LGBT prevention by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag). Pratikno stated he would coordinate with relevant ministries and institutions to supervise the implementation of the curriculum.

“We will continue to coordinate the relevant ministries, in this case the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and the Ministry of Higher Education regarding this matter. And also institutions that organise educational units,” Pratikno said during a press conference at the PMK office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (22/7/2026).

Pratikno said the initiative refers to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 111 of 2025, which includes the spread of LGBT culture as a non-military threat to the state. “We refer to what was mentioned earlier by the Vice Minister of Religious Affairs regarding Presidential Regulation Number 111 of 2025, where it is included as part of the threat,” he said. “So our task at the Coordinating Ministry for PMK is coordination, synchronisation, and control of the implementation related to this.”

Previously, the Ministry of Religious Affairs announced it was compiling educational materials on the prevention of the spread of LGBT culture to be integrated into the education curriculum. Vice Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafi’i stated that the material is targeted to be taught to students starting from the fourth grade of primary school.

“This is a follow-up to Presidential Regulation 111 of 2025 concerning the General Policy for State Defence, where the spread of LGBT culture is categorised as a non-military threat,” said Romo Syafi’i at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday (20/7). He explained that the material has been collected and is currently being finalised before being inserted into the existing curriculum. “We hope that by providing this understanding from primary school grades 4, 5, and 6, then to junior high and senior high school, they can understand the dangers of the spread of LGBT culture,” he added.
