LG Electronics help 200 needy students

YOGYAKARTA: Giant electronics manufacturer PT LG Electronics
Indonesia (LGEIN) has distributed scholarships to 200 students of
50 Junior High Schools across Yogyakarta province, each of whom
will receive a yearly scholarship of Rp 830,000.

The company's human resource department director Herman
Surjadi who handed over the scholarships to the children here
earlier this week, said the funds would be directly transferred
to the students' bank accounts every three months.

The scholarship is the second after the same scholarship was
distributed last year to 100 junior high school students of
economically disadvantaged families. It is provided to help the
government achieve its goal of nine years of compulsory
education.

"There are children who cannot continue their studies after
elementary school due to their poor economic condition," said
Herman, adding that the LG scholarships for junior high school
students have only been given here in Yogyakarta province so far.

But the company, he said, had also been distributing
scholarships to university students in Bandung (West Java),
Surabaya (East Java), Semarang (Central Java), Malang (East
Java), and Salatiga (Central Java) in the last three years.

"We select 10 university students a year to receive
the scholarship. They are students of the school of technical
engineering and can be directly recruited to work at our company
upon graduation," Herman added. --JP
