Levy on expat workers
Levy on expat workers
From Kompas
A few months ago, the minister of manpower increased the
minimum labor wage and reduced a number of official levies within
the ministry. These measures were welcomed by the community.
But now, the minister has introduced a levy of US$100 per
month on each expatriate working in Indonesia. This amount may
not be a burden to the foreign workers but that is not the
problem.
It is estimated that an amount of approximately $60 million
(Rp 140 billion) will be collected through this levy.
The question is whether there will be transparency in the use
of the money. Will there be a financial report audited by an
independent institute and published in the media? The money
collected should not undergo the same fate as other levies, which
are not transparent and beneficial to one side only.
