Letter to Prabowo: FPI Urges Indonesia to Withdraw from the Board of Peace
Jakarta, VIVA – The Central Executive Board (DPP) of the Front Persaudaraan Islam (FPI) has written to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, regarding several matters. One of them is a request for Indonesia to withdraw from the Board of Peace (BoP) or the Peace Council.
This was stated by Habib Hanif Alatas, Secretary of the Syuro Council of the DPP Front Persaudaraan Islam (FPI), after attending a gathering and iftar with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace complex, Central Jakarta, Thursday, 5 March 2026.
Hanif said that he came on behalf of Habib Rizieq Shihab, who was unable to attend the invitation from the President.
“I came first to represent Habib Rizieq. Habib Rizieq was invited by the President; he could not attend due to a reason. I was sent to represent him,” Hanif told reporters.
He explained that in the meeting, President Prabowo spoke about the geopolitical situation and Indonesia’s aims in joining the Board of Peace (BoP).
Hanif said that he had not had a chance to speak with the President during the meeting. However, he had entrusted a letter for Prabowo, which contained the request for Indonesia to withdraw from the Board of Peace.
“We conveyed the letter; we also conveyed to the President that we persist in asking for the Republic of Indonesia to withdraw from the Board of Peace,” he said.
He explained the reasons for requesting Indonesia’s withdrawal from the Board of Peace. One reason is a lack of trust in the United States (US) as the initiator of the BoP.
“Why? We believe in the goodwill of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, but we do not trust America. We do not trust Israel. Even the prophets and messengers were betrayed by Israel, let alone ordinary people,” he said.
“So regardless of what he said, we have already delivered the letter entrusted through one of his ministers, and we have told the President that we still ask for the Republic of Indonesia to withdraw from the BoP. Not because we do not trust the President, but because we do not trust America, we do not trust its Israel. The letter also contains other points that have been openly stated by the DPP FPI,” Hanif concluded.
