Letter from the China Chamber of Commerce to Prabowo Puts the Nickel Sector in the Spotlight

The China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia has officially sent a letter to President Prabowo Subianto. In the widely circulated letter, Chinese businesspeople complain about various government policies in the nickel sector, which they believe are putting pressure on the investment climate in Indonesia. Some of the points highlighted include increased taxes and royalties, regulations on export proceeds, reduced nickel ore production quotas, and a new formula for the Reference Mineral Price. Chairman of the Indonesian Nickel Industry Forum, Arif Perdana Kusumah, said that the complaints of Chinese investors are also felt by domestic business actors. According to him, rapid changes in regulations trigger business uncertainty amid global economic pressures.
