Letter #3
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a student of Ipeka Christian Bilingual School. My name is
Hadrian Anthony Sediono. Last Friday, my friends and I were
walking on the street. We were shocked by the smell from all over
the place. It's because of the garbage people throw [away] on the
streets. People sometimes do not respect this country; they throw
garbage on the streets where there is no garbage can.
Air pollution is more than just an unpleasant experience. It
can cause major health problems for all people in Jakarta.
Another factor is water pollution. People throw garbage and
manufacturing plants produce [industrial] waste. Because of the
waste and garbage and oil, the water gets dirty and fish can die.
Furthermore, advanced technology increases pollution. People
manufacture advanced technological equipment in factories. When
manufacturing waste is burned, it produced poisonous gas and some
are thrown [out] without being reprocessed, so it causes more
pollution.
I believe there are several important steps the government and
the people of Jakarta could take to reduce environmental
pollution in the city. The first step would be to put garbage
cans all over the roads and streets. Secondly, the police could
charge people if they throw away garbage not in the garbage can.
I also believe that the people of Jakarta could stop throwing
[away] garbage everywhere, because air pollution can create many
kinds of illnesses and diseases.
I am very confident that my proposal will be successful,
because if the people of Jakarta could reduce pollution, this
country will be cleaner and tourists will feel more comfortable
when they come here. Some people might say that this proposal is
too ambitious, but I believe we can reduce environmental
pollution; we can make Jakarta a better place.
I know that some of the people of Jakarta don't care much
about the pollution, but I believe that every citizen has
responsibility to take care of our city/country because we can't
depend on others.
I hope the president or the government and the people of
Jakarta will consider my proposals seriously and help to make
Indonesia a better place. Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
Hadrian Anthony Sediono
