Lestari: The Skills of the People Determine the Nation's Future
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chair of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, stated that efforts to enhance the skills of the people form part of the steps to determine the nation’s future.
Lestari, while attending a makeup training session organised as part of the socialisation of the four pillars of the nation in Jepara, Central Java, on Saturday, said that the skill of applying facial makeup is closely related to the main principles of nationhood.
“Today, we are not merely learning to apply makeup to the face. We are applying makeup to our future,” she said, according to a statement received in Jakarta.
According to her, this training not only teaches skills but also instils the spirit of building self-confidence, dignity, and prepares participants to understand how to build economic resilience.
The four pillars of the nation, consisting of Pancasila, the constitution, the Unitary Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, are not just memorisation or matters of politics. These four principles, she said, must live in all aspects of life, including in skills training.
Lestari explained that the implementation of Pancasila in the profession of a makeup artist can take the form of working with good intentions and practising the profession honestly, reflecting the values of divinity.
Additionally, by respecting the diversity of clients without discriminating based on ethnicity, religion, or class, in line with the values of humanity and unity.
The training organised by the Forum of Training and Course Institutions (LKP) of Jepara Regency, according to Lestari, also represents the implementation of the constitutional mandate that the state must guarantee its citizens’ rights to obtain education, work, and a decent living.
Furthermore, coinciding with National Education Day commemorated every 2 May, Lestari said that the role of LKP reflects efforts to strengthen universal participation that can realise quality education for all.
“A great nation is not only built by smart people, but by those who work with values,” Lestari concluded.
