Lestari Moerdijat Says MPR Annual Session a Benchmark for National Development

Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI Lestari Moerdijat (Rerie) assessed that the MPR RI Annual Session holds strategic significance for the sustainability and achievement of various national development targets. Rerie stressed that this forum is the epicentre of national thought to ensure national development reaches all regions and sides with the people’s interests. “The MPR RI Annual Session is not merely an annual ceremony, but a benchmark for development continuity and a space for public accountability,” Rerie said on Friday (14/8/2026). Rerie added that the success of national development must be measured by its ability to answer the needs of the community equitably. “The state address and the Financial Note must reflect the government’s commitment to overcoming inequality, strengthening food and energy security, and encouraging industrial downstreaming. All of this must lead to improving the people’s welfare,” explained the member of House Commission X. Rerie highlighted the importance of the regions’ role in national development. According to her, regional aspirations must become part of the mainstream of national policy so that development is not concentrated solely on Java. “Indonesia has a diverse geographical landscape and economic base. Therefore, the development approach cannot be uniform from one region to another,” said the member of the NasDem Party High Council. With the convening of this Annual Session, Rerie hopes that all elements of the nation can synergise in carrying out the development agenda. “We want Indonesia not only to be a source of raw materials and a market, but to become a producer and creator of added value. The national interest must be the compass, and that can only be realised if there is good orchestration between the centre and the regions,” she concluded.
