Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, said that the struggle of RA Kartini to realise freedom, independence, and the ability of women to be at the forefront, is still very relevant to the current conditions. According to her, RA Kartini’s struggle was not limited to women, but promoted human values.

“RA Kartini’s struggle was not only aimed at women. More importantly, she was actually fighting for human values,” said Lestari, in a written statement, Wednesday (25/2/2026).

This was conveyed by Lestari while visiting the Jepara Regent’s Office and the Kartini Museum as part of the DPP Partai NasDem’s Ramadan Safari in Jepara, Central Java.

On that occasion, Lestari, who is also the Head of the DPW Partai NasDem for Central Java, accompanied the Deputy Chairman of the DPP Partai NasDem, Saan Mustofa, and they were welcomed by the Regent of Jepara, Witiarso Utomo, and his staff.

In addition to visiting the museum, Rerie, Lestari’s nickname, handed over a mobile library for the Community Reading Park in Jepara.

According to Rerie, the Kartini Museum, which is located in the Jepara Regency Office, not only presents the values of RA Kartini’s journey, but also the human values she fought for.

Rerie, who is also a member of Commission X of the DPR RI, said that together with the Jepara Regency Government, she is proposing that the Kartini Museum also function as a centre for women’s studies.

“So, the embryo for a centre for women’s studies already exists, we are currently collecting various kinds of supporting elements,” said Rerie.

With this step, said the member of the NasDem Party’s High Council, the effort to realise the museum as a centre for developing literacy for the community is getting closer to being realised.

Moreover, Rerie added, if the tax on books can be abolished. With this condition, the improvement of community literacy related to women will be even more evident.

According to Rerie, she, as a member of the DPR RI, together with the Jepara Regency Government, is targeting that the Kartini Museum can become a class A museum that can be a source of pride for the community.
