Lestari Moerdijat: Karimunjawa Beach Cleanliness Must Be Consistently Maintained

As interest from tourists visiting Karimunjawa continues to rise, maintaining beach cleanliness has become a significant challenge that must be consistently addressed.

This was emphasised by the Deputy Speaker of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, during a public aspiration gathering themed ‘Environmentally Conscious National Development’. The event, which included a community beach clean-up, took place in Karimunjawa Village, Jepara Regency, Central Java, on Sunday (21/6).

“The arrival of tourists in Karimunjawa does not only bring income to the residents, but also demands the responsibility of all parties to maintain environmental cleanliness,” said Lestari.

In addition to the beach clean-up, Lestari—affectionately known as Rerie—alongside the Deputy Speaker of the Jepara Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), H. Pratikno, and environmental activists, released baby sea turtles at a beach newly named ‘Pantai Lestari Ceria’.

Upon inaugurating the beach’s new name, Rerie expressed her hope that Pantai Lestari Ceria would serve not only as a tourist attraction but also as an educational site to ensure the environment in Karimunjawa remains preserved.

The Head of Karimunjawa Village, Arif Setiawan, who is also a tourism practitioner, expressed his support for Pantai Lestari Ceria acting as a centre for environmental education in his welcoming remarks.

Arif noted that, in addition to generating income for the community, the beauty of the beach should provide an understanding for villagers to preserve the environment at Pantai Lestari Ceria. He also urged tourism operators in Karimunjawa not to solely pursue profits, but to actively participate in environmental conservation.
