Less farewells for president
Less farewells for president
From Koran Tempo
For years, Indonesia's President has always been seen off by
the vice president, ministers, the police chief, military
commander, governors and other high-ranking officials when going
abroad.
The same thing happened when President Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono left for Chile to attend the APEC Summit.
The President has often said we all have to work hard, and of
course effectively, to fix national problems. However, I do not
see such unnecessary ceremonial farewells as examples of
productive practices.
The hours wasted by government officials, let alone the vice
president, could have been spent on more valuable public
services.
In the next five years, with more foreign visits yet to be
made by the president, how much time will be wasted on such
farewell ceremonies if the practice continues?
It would be enough to have only one or two officials see off
their superiors at all levels, so more time could be spent on
more productive work.
