Lenteng Agung Road Subsidence Prompts Traffic Management Measures
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A road subsidence on Lenteng Agung Main Road, near Gang Empang in front of Alpino Knalpot workshop in South Jakarta, has caused prolonged traffic congestion towards Depok and surrounding areas. Two lanes rendered unusable have drastically reduced road capacity, leading to traffic delays over recent days.
In response, the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Jakarta Transportation Department have immediately implemented traffic management measures to alleviate congestion and ensure road user safety. Acting Head of Jakarta Transportation Department Ujang Hermawan stated that public safety is the top priority in handling the incident.
“We understand that community activities have been disrupted by the road subsidence. Therefore, traffic regulation and rerouting have been promptly implemented to reduce congestion and ensure road user safety. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” Hermawan said in a statement on May 29, 2026.
Under the implemented traffic management scheme, two-wheelers are permitted to use the rightmost lane of Lenteng Agung Main Road. Meanwhile, four-wheelers heading to the University of Indonesia (UI) and Depok are directed to turn around at the Universitas Pancasila Railway Crossing (JPL 23). Heavy vehicles are prohibited from passing through the affected area and have been rerouted from TB Simatupang Junction heading west.
According to Hermawan, the road damage occurred gradually since Wednesday (May 27). To ensure road user safety, the South Jakarta Public Works Sub-Division has conducted initial repairs using cold mix asphalt. Additionally, investigations into the cause of the subsidence are ongoing, involving the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Division.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has assured that repairs are being expedited to restore normal traffic conditions in Lenteng Agung. “We are currently deploying 20 officers on-site to manage traffic during the repair process,” he added.
