Lenteng Agung Road Sinkhole Repairs Underway Amid Gridlocked Traffic
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Traffic on Lenteng Agung Road in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, is gridlocked on Monday, 1 June 2026. KOMPAS.com’s observation at the scene around 9.24am WIB showed a traffic jam stretching approximately 2.5 kilometres from Pancasila University Station to the site of the incident on Lenteng Agung Road. The traffic jam is due to ongoing repairs of the sinkhole by the Jakarta Provincial Water Resources Department (SDA). Repairs are being carried out on both sides of the road, forcing drivers to take turns when passing. Joint teams from the Transportation Department (Dishub), Urban Cleaning Service (PPSU), and SDA are on-site to manage traffic. According to an SDA official who wished to remain anonymous, the current repair phase involves excavating soil on the right side of the road. Once excavation is complete, a concrete box culvert will be installed. Concrete pouring is likely to take place tonight to restore the road surface. As of publication, traffic congestion persists along Lenteng Agung Road. The damage has created a three-metre-deep, 16-metre-long sinkhole along the road. A motorcyclist fell into the sinkhole but was promptly evacuated by locals.
