Lenteng Agung Road Sinkhole Repairs Nearing Completion, Asphalt Work Tonight
JAKARTA — Repair of Lenteng Agung Timur Road in Srengseng Sawah, South Jakarta, which collapsed on Thursday (28 May 2026) evening, is nearing completion.
The road section is scheduled to be asphalted on Sunday (31 May 2026) evening.
“This is just the asphalt work. It’s likely to be smoothed out tonight. Estimated completion in two to three days. There are utilities that need tidying up before finalising,” said Sunardi, Village Head of Srengseng Sawah, at the site on Sunday.
Sunardi explained that the sinkhole site has been fitted with nine concrete box culverts.
One more unit will be added, bringing the total to 10 box culverts.
He said the box culverts replace the old iron culverts previously beneath the road.
“They’ve installed the box culverts underneath. The iron ones were replaced with box culverts. This has been done over two nights,” he explained.
He stated that beneath the collapsed road section runs water flowing from University of Indonesia (UI) Lake to Ciliwung River. Previously, this flow passed through iron culverts.
Sunardi suspected the old culverts had corroded due to age.
“It used to be iron pipes. There were culverts, but they had corroded inside,” Sunardi said.
“So far, there have been no issues. But after decades, perhaps there were civets or snakes nesting underneath, causing the collapse,” he added.
Before asphalt work, the repaired area will first be concreted. Asphalt process is targeted to finish by Tuesday (2 June 2026).
“Repairs are about 70% complete due to the concreting work. There’s still road cleaning to do,” said Iwan during a site visit.
According to Kompas.com observations, two- and four-wheeled vehicles can now pass through the site. The previously collapsed section has been covered with over 15 steel plates.
Transjakarta buses, intercity buses, and trucks are also seen passing, though heavy vehicles slow down when crossing the former sinkhole area.
Despite this, traffic flow on Lenteng Agung Timur Road is smooth with no congestion.
