The South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department (Sudin SDA) is urgently repairing a sinkhole on Lenteng Agung road in South Jakarta. The repair project has a total budget of Rp380 million covering all stages of the process. ‘The budget is around Rp380 million, covering the entire two-week works,’ said Sudin SDA Head Santo at the repair site on Saturday (30/5/2026). Santo explained the work is divided into two phases. The first phase involves repairing the main road, targeted for completion in three days to restore normal traffic, while the second phase focuses on finishing the roadside areas. ‘We’re prioritising the main road to be finished within three days so traffic can flow normally again – no more congestion. Vehicles should be able to pass by Monday,’ he said. Today’s work includes installing 10 box culverts to channel water from the UI connection channel to the Ciliwung River. This material was chosen to expedite repairs on the main road area. ‘We need to complete this 10-metre section by tonight. The paved road is 8.5 metres wide, expanding to 10 metres with shoulders. We’re using rigid concrete, which will be ready for traffic after eight hours,’ Santo explained. For the roadside areas, Santo said workers will manually install river stone revetment, chosen due to the high number of underground cables and poles. Santo acknowledged traffic congestion in Lenteng Agung as a major challenge, restricting the movement of workers and heavy machinery. ‘Traffic congestion is the main issue. The flow is too heavy. If we could fully close the road, we’d have more space to work and finish faster,’ he added. Despite this, he assured repairs would continue within the available space and time. Santo apologised to road users and residents for traffic disruptions caused by the crossing construction and repair works. ‘I apologise to road users, especially drivers, and surrounding residents for the traffic congestion due to crossing construction and repair activities,’ he said.
