Lenteng Agung Road Collapses Again as SDA Rushes Drainage Repairs in 2-3 Days
Repair work on a collapsed section of Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung towards Depok in South Jakarta is being expedited after the road subsided, causing traffic congestion in the area. The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-District Office (SDA), aims to complete the drainage repairs within two to three days. Santo, Head of South Jakarta SDA, said the current focus is on the drainage system beneath the road. Repairs are being carried out in stages to maintain traffic flow and prevent worsening congestion. ‘If accelerated, the target is two to three days for the drainage repairs,’ Santo confirmed on Friday (29 May). Santo explained that a full closure of Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung is not being implemented due to high vehicle volume, especially during peak hours. Therefore, construction work is being done in sections while keeping the road open for traffic. ‘It’s being done in sections so the road remains passable. With heavy traffic, we’re first easing congestion, then continuing construction work tonight,’ he added. He explained that the subsidence occurred above a crossing drain from the University of Indonesia’s PHB (Connecting Channel) leading to the Ciliwung River. Damage to this drain is the SDA’s main focus. ‘The crossing drain from PHB UI leading to the Ciliwung River,’ Santo clarified. SDA South Jakarta assured that repairs are being carried out as quickly as possible to restore safe road conditions and prevent prolonged traffic disruption in the Lenteng Agung area. To alleviate vehicle buildup since Thursday (28 May) evening, police temporarily reopened access to Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. A garbage truck from South Jakarta SDA sank into the collapsed road during operations. The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) is implementing traffic management measures following the road subsidence on Jalan Lenteng Agung Raya. The Jakarta Public Works Agency (Dinas Bina Marga) has taken swift action to address the road damage on Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung.
