Lenteng Agung road collapse timeline
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Public Works Department has revealed the timeline of a road collapse on the Lenteng Agung Main Road towards Depok since Wednesday (27/5) evening.
‘Initial reports from the public and a PPSU (Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling) officer were received by the Jagakarsa District Public Works Task Force on Wednesday (27/5) evening, indicating a road collapse on Lenteng Agung Main Road in South Jakarta,’ said Siti Dinarwenny, Head of the Data and Information Centre for the Jakarta Public Works Department, on Friday.
She added that on Thursday (28/5), the Jagakarsa District Public Works Task Force immediately conducted site inspections and implemented temporary measures to ensure road user safety.
Quick response measures were carried out in coordination with the Jakarta Water Resources Department (SDA), as initial indications suggested the collapse was caused by damage to the underground water channel infrastructure.
‘Field inspections revealed that the ground beneath the road had become hollow, necessitating comprehensive remediation by the Water Resources Department,’ Siti said.
In response, the Jagakarsa District Public Works Task Force immediately secured the area using water barriers to minimise accident risks for road users.
‘By Thursday (28/5) evening, the collapse had worsened, fully engulfing two lanes of the road,’ she added.
Following coordination with the Jakarta Water Resources Department, permanent repairs to the damaged underground water channel infrastructure are being handled by the SDA and remain ongoing.
The road collapse, which began on Wednesday (27/5), measures 3 metres deep and 16 metres long. The collapse occurred just after Gang Empang on Lenteng Agung Main Road.
The incident caused traffic congestion on the Jakarta-Depok route.
Currently, traffic police are managing the remaining single lane to ease congestion, with drivers exercising caution when passing the site.
