SDA Jakarta Selatan officials removed retaining walls on the left side of the collapsed road at Jalan Raya Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, to allow water to flow smoothly. On Saturday, 30 May 2026, SDA officers began using an excavator to breach the wall from 4:30 PM to 5:50 PM WIB. Prior to the breach, fast-flowing water had eroded surrounding foundation materials, causing one internet pole to sink slightly while remaining secured. The breach exposed the underside of the left road area, revealing electrical and internet cables, wall materials, and soil. Meanwhile, PT PLN personnel inspected high-voltage electrical cables at the site using a large black electrical tracer. Additionally, Transportation Department (Dishub) and Traffic Police (Polantas) officers managed traffic flow. Despite ongoing works, the road remains passable for vehicles at reduced speeds. Previously, Sartono, Head of the SDA Operational Unit in Jagakarsa Subdistrict, explained the cause of the strong water flow beneath the collapsed road, stating it was due to water held back upstream. Sartono said previous road damage had blocked water flow, causing it to accumulate in the upper channel. Repairs downstream have now allowed water to resume flowing. ‘Before yesterday’s repairs, the initial hole was large. After the partial collapse, water flow was blocked. The collapse caused water to be trapped upstream, leading to a backlog,’ Sartono said on Saturday, 30 May 2026. He added that the strong current at the hole’s end was due to the replacement of channel materials with box culverts, though the outflow has intensified as work remains incomplete.
