JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - South Jakarta’s Public Works Department (Sudin Bina Marga) revealed the sequence of events leading to a road collapse on Lenteng Agung Main Road in South Jakarta, which swallowed two lanes and caused a lengthy traffic jam on Friday morning (29 May 2026). South Jakarta Public Works Department Head Rifki Rismal stated that road damage was first detected on Wednesday evening (27 May 2026) following reports from residents and Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management (PPSU) officers. “On Wednesday 27 May evening, the South Jakarta SDBM team received reports from residents and a PPSU officer that the road had collapsed and was quite deep,” Rifki said in a WhatsApp message on Friday. At that time, the Public Works Department immediately carried out temporary repairs using coldmix to keep the road passable for vehicles. “On Thursday morning, South Jakarta SDBM swiftly conducted site monitoring and promptly applied coldmix as a follow-up measure,” he added. After inspection, it was discovered that the road’s substructure had become hollow, causing the surface to continue sinking. “Field monitoring revealed the subsoil was indeed hollow, necessitating urgent intervention by the Water Resources Agency (SDA),” he said. Officers then installed water barriers to secure the area. However, by Thursday night, the collapse had worsened, expanding to engulf two lanes of the road. Rifki stated that the South Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA) would first repair the drainage system, after which the Public Works Department would fix the damaged road surface. “Once the culvert repairs are complete, Bina Marga will promptly repair the road,” Rifki added.
