JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The lift at the Pedestrian Overpass (JPO) in front of the Institut Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik (ISIIP) has broken down again. This is not the first time this has happened. Local residents recall that the lift was out of service for a year in 2025, and now the issue has recurred. As a result, students, the elderly, and other residents are forced to climb 62 steps while enduring fatigue to cross the busy road. Anton (40), a resident who regularly passes through the JPO on his way to work, said the lift damage has been ongoing for quite some time. Anton added that the majority of JPO users are students and schoolchildren, although the general public also frequently crosses. He assessed that the high stairs with limited handrails make crossing even more difficult. “If carrying items, especially shopping, it’s even harder,” said Anton. Rehaini (38), a resident whose home is right in front of the lift access, expressed a similar view. “This is the second time; the first was last year (2025) and it was broken for a year too. Now it’s happened again,” she said. According to Rehaini, the non-functional lift makes daily activities more exhausting, especially for children and the elderly. Kompas.com observations on Monday (6/4/2026) showed that the lift on the side from Lenteng Agung Station towards Tanjung Barat Station was covered with paper notices reading “Lift under repair”. Meanwhile, the lift on the opposite side is still usable.
