Lenteng Agung Footbridge Lift Operational Again After Cable Theft Repairs
The lift at the Lenteng Agung pedestrian bridge (JPO) in South Jakarta has begun functioning again after being damaged by cable theft. The Jakarta Provincial Highways Department, via its official Instagram account, stated the lift is operating optimally again following repairs to the electrical network previously damaged by vandalism.
“With the reconnection of the electrical network, both lift units at the Lenteng Agung JPO, on both the Depok-bound and Pasar Minggu-bound sides, have now returned to normal function and can be used by the public,” the Highways Department said on Wednesday.
Repairs were carried out by the Jakarta Provincial Highways Department through its City Infrastructure and Utility Facilities Division together with the South Jakarta Administrative City Highways Sub-department since the morning. Power supply was successfully restored and reconnected at 1:20 p.m. local time.
“These repairs were made as a form of the Highways Department’s commitment to maintaining service quality and ensuring public facilities remain safe and comfortable for use by the public, especially vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women, and other users with special needs,” it said.
The Jakarta Highways Department deplored the act of vandalism that disrupted the function of the public facility. Such actions not only damage public infrastructure but also potentially hinder the mobility of citizens who rely on these facilities in their daily activities.
“For this reason, the Highways Department invites all members of the community to jointly look after and maintain public facilities, particularly highway infrastructure built for the common good. With care and participation from all residents, public facilities can continue to be preserved and provide sustainable benefits to society,” it appealed.
It was previously reported that the Jakarta Highways Department stated the lift at the Tapal Kuda Lenteng Agung JPO was under repair. The lift at the JPO was damaged by unidentified persons.
“Currently, the Lenteng Agung JPO lift is temporarily out of operation due to damage to the electrical system caused by an act of vandalism,” the Jakarta Highways Department stated on Tuesday.
The Highways Department said the lift cables were targeted in the vandalism incident that occurred on Tuesday last week. In information uploaded by the Highways Department on Monday, the JPO was in the repair stage. “It is hoped that the lift can return to optimal function in the near future,” it said.
