Lenteng Agung Collapsed Road Repair Targeted for Completion in Two Weeks Amid Challenges
The Jakarta South Water Resources Sub-Division (Sudin SDA) is accelerating repairs to a collapsed road in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta. The main road is expected to be passable for vehicles within three days. “We’re focusing on the main road to be operational within three days. Yes, traffic will be clear and no longer congested,” said Santo, Head of Jakarta South Sudin SDA, at the site on Saturday, 30 May 2026. Santo explained that the primary focus is completing work over a 10-metre stretch from upstream to downstream. Workers are installing box culverts to channel water from the UI connection channel (PHB) to the Ciliwung River. “Today’s progress focuses on upstream to downstream. We need to complete this 10-metre section by tonight. The final paving work for the main road asphalt may be finished by tomorrow night,” he added. Although the main road is expected to be passable next week, Santo said full completion is estimated to take two weeks due to challenges with utility lines and poles preventing the use of machinery or prefabricated materials on both sides of the road. “Why does the side work take two weeks? Because it involves manual stone revetment. The box culverts are prefabricated and just need installing, but the revetment must be constructed manually. We can’t use boxes due to utility lines,” Santo explained. To expedite the road’s reopening for motorbikes and cars, Jakarta South Sudin SDA is using rigid concrete, which dries quickly. “We’ll compact it tonight and apply rigid concrete. It will set in eight hours and be ready for use. That’s why we’re rushing to install 10 boxes today,” Santo said. Santo stated the road repair project costs approximately Rp380 million, covering all materials and work until completion. Santo also apologised to the public, particularly road users, for the traffic congestion caused during the repair works.
