Lenovo launches AI student phone in China without games or social media
Lenovo has launched a phone specifically for students in China, designed to support learning while facilitating strict parental supervision. The AI Student Phone cannot access games, web browsers, or social media. Instead of offering entertainment features like typical smartphones, the device focuses on AI-based learning, location tracking, and stringent parental controls. The phone resembles a feature phone, limited to messaging and calling, and is equipped with a 1.83-inch touchscreen protected by Panda Glass that supports handwritten input. Its main feature is a physical AI button that activates a voice assistant, allowing students to ask general knowledge questions or request help with school assignments. Lenovo has also included a collection of learning materials covering mathematical formulas and English vocabulary, enabling the phone to serve as a study aid without providing unrestricted internet access. For parents, the AI Student Phone functions as a monitoring tool. An integrated GPS system allows real-time location tracking, and a geofencing feature sends notifications when a child enters or leaves designated areas such as a school or residential neighbourhood. When classroom mode is activated during school hours, the phone’s functions are restricted to displaying the time and making emergency calls. Lenovo has also incorporated a QR code-based digital payment system, allowing students to make transactions at shops while parents can set spending limits and monitor transaction history through an application. The AI Student Phone comes with a detachable lanyard and is available in orange-white, pink, and blue colour options.
