Lenovo Launches AI Device for Children with Emergency SOS Button and GPS
Lenovo has officially launched a new AI device designed specifically for children. The Lenovo AI Companion Device was launched in China and positioned as a hybrid between a children’s smartwatch and a smartphone. The gadget offers communication, AI, educational, and location-tracking features in a simplified form compared to a standard smartphone.
Designed with a compact, child-friendly body, the device features two physical buttons on the front. The first activates the AI assistant, while the second is an emergency SOS button.
A key feature is a 5MP camera mounted on a rotating hinge, usable for photos and video calls. Combined with multimodal AI technology, children can point the camera at objects—such as plants, animals, or unfamiliar everyday items—to have them identified by the AI.
The AI also functions as a chatbot, answering general queries and providing educational support like homework assistance, dictionaries, and bilingual learning materials.
Specs include 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, running on an Android-based OS to support additional apps. Promotional materials highlight support for popular Chinese apps like WeChat, QQ, DeepSeek, digital dictionaries, and online learning platforms.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 4G LTE via a SIM card slot, enabling voice calls, video calls, and AI services even when away from home.
