Len Industri Strengthens Ground Control Interception Radar Capability to Support National Air Defence Readiness
PT Len Industri (Persero) is continuing to strengthen national air defence technology capabilities through the implementation of a Ground Control Interception (GCI) Radar, a next-generation radar system designed to support integrated airspace surveillance and Ground Control Intercept capabilities. The state-owned enterprise recently hosted a company visit from PT Pemeringkat Efek Indonesia (Pefindo), during which it showcased its strategic technological capabilities, including the GCI Radar currently being implemented in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. The event was attended by the boards of directors of both PT Len Industri (Persero) and PT Pefindo as an introduction to Len’s competence in developing national defence technology. This GCI Radar is the first implementation in Indonesia to adopt the latest technology to support air surveillance and Ground Control Intercept capabilities. The system is designed to deliver more effective airspace surveillance, enhance comprehensive situational awareness, and strengthen air defence operational control through the provision of fast, accurate, and integrated information. In terms of capability, the GCI Radar has a detection range of up to 515 kilometres, an update rate every 6 seconds, and a fast time to target, enabling it to present real-time situational information to support rapid and precise operational decision-making. These advantages are reinforced by stacked beam technology, which increases detection effectiveness against various aerial objects under diverse operational conditions. Beyond its performance superiority, the GCI Radar is also designed with a high mobility concept through a 20-foot ISO Container configuration and fast deployment capability, allowing the system to be relocated and operated quickly according to operational needs in various regions. Behind the GCI Radar system’s reliability lies the collaboration of dozens of PT Len Industri (Persero) engineers from various disciplines, including civil, electrical, radio frequency (RF), network, software, and mechanical engineering. Together, they oversee every stage, from site construction, installation, and integration to testing, ensuring the radar is ready to operate optimally. Operationally, the GCI Radar is also integrated with the Indonesian Air Force’s air defence system so that surveillance information can be received quickly to support air defence operational control. Through mastery of radar technology, system integration capabilities, implementation, operational oversight, and maintenance support, PT Len Industri (Persero) continues to strengthen national defence industry self-reliance. The implementation of the GCI Radar is a tangible manifestation of the company’s commitment to delivering modern, integrated, and reliable air defence solutions, while reinforcing Len’s position as a national defence technology company supporting the realisation of a sovereign Indonesia.
