Lempuyangan Station has begun undergoing redevelopment to enhance passenger accessibility and connectivity. One of the key improvements being implemented by KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta is the separation of station access from public roads.

“Currently, the focus of the work is on constructing a new highway to separate the dedicated access road to Lempuyangan Station for passenger arrivals and departures from the public road,” said the Public Relations Manager of Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih, in a written statement on Tuesday (29/09/2026).

Feni stated that this restructuring began on 29 July 2026. The initial phase, which involves the redevelopment of Zone 3 and the construction of the new public access road, is targeted for completion by the end of 2026.

“The new road currently under construction has a length of 394 metres and a width of 9 metres. This arrangement is being carried out in stages as part of the expansion of the Lempuyangan Station area,” she said.

Feni added that Lempuyangan Station serves as a primary gateway for both residents and tourists entering Yogyakarta. Passenger volume at the station has also shown consistent growth.

“In 2024, Lempuyangan Station served 5,392,700 passengers. This figure increased by approximately 4 per cent to 5,605,414 passengers in 2025,” she revealed.

“Specifically for the Yogyakarta-Palur KRL Commuter Line service, the average number of passengers boarding and alighting at Lempuyangan Station reaches approximately 4,500 people per day,” she explained.

Feni noted that the redevelopment is intended to support the growth of transport services at Lempuyangan Station while maintaining safety, security, and comfort for both the public and railway operations.

“This restructuring is expected to provide significant benefits for the community and tourists in terms of transport accessibility, which will be developed in the future into an ideal intermodal integration hub to support mobility,” she said.

In the process of expanding the area, KAI Daop 6 had previously carried out the clearing of 13 company-owned houses. Feni confirmed that these structures were not heritage or cultural heritage buildings.

“Of those 13 company houses, 11 have been demolished. Meanwhile, the other two houses will be maintained in accordance with the directives and recommendations from the Yogyakarta City Culture Office,” she explained.

KAI Daop 6 stated that the entire redevelopment process has been coordinated with all relevant parties. The development of the Lempuyangan Station area is expected to support tourism and the local economy in Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas.
