The Executive Director of the Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi), Edi Saputra Hasibuan, believes that the launch of four digital innovations by the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) is a significant step towards driving more modern and integrated traffic services.

The four innovations—namely the Traffic Fine Payment System, Digital Vehicle Registration (STNK Digital), SIM Kios, and the SIAP JALAN application—were launched by the Chief of National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, during the 71st Bhayangkara Traffic Day celebration in Jakarta on Friday.

“We see Korlantas Polri continuously improving and moving towards modern traffic services. This is not merely about adding more applications, but represents a change in service delivery so that the public can access services that are easier, faster, more transparent, and integrated,” Edi stated in a press release in Jakarta on Sunday.

In addition to simplifying services, the system is considered capable of creating a clearer electronic administrative trail in the traffic fine settlement process.

“The digitalisation of traffic fines must be able to narrow the space for irregularities because the process is electronically recorded. The public will also gain certainty regarding information on the fine settlement process,” he added.

Edi noted that the introduction of Digital STNK and SIM Kios demonstrates that vehicle administration services are shifting from conventional patterns towards technology-based services.

Through the SIM Kios, members of the public who have digitally renewed their Class A or Class C driving licences can print their licences independently using a QR code. This facility is expected to reduce service time and minimise queues at the Driver’s Licence Administration Units (Satpas).

Meanwhile, the SIAP JALAN application is designed to support traffic safety aspects. Through this application, drivers can perform assessments to determine their readiness and potential risks before driving.

“Most importantly, these digital innovations must provide tangible benefits to the public. The measure of success is not the number of applications, but whether the public finds it easier to access services and becomes safer whilst travelling,” he said.

He expressed hope that the development of Korlantas’s digital transformation would continue to prioritise data security, ease of use, inter-agency integration, and service readiness across all regions.

“This is a step forward. Traffic police must continue to innovate so that public services become increasingly modern, humanist, transparent, and responsive to the needs of the community,” concluded Edi.
