Lemhannas urges government to ensure safety of TNI troops in Lebanon
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) of the Republic of Indonesia has requested that the government ensure the security of TNI personnel who are part of the peacekeeping force in Lebanon. Lemhannas Governor Ace Hasan Syadzily stated that TNI personnel must receive assurances of safety to ensure the success of their mission in promoting peace in Lebanon. “I believe it is essential to ensure that our soldiers’ safety is protected, and I think the Indonesian government is continuously conducting evaluations,” Ace said during a press conference at the Lemhannas office in Central Jakarta on Saturday. According to Ace, Indonesia has been greatly honoured by the opportunity from the UN to play a role in creating peace in Lebanon. This opportunity has been carried out well, as evidenced by the TNI’s successful performance in peacekeeping tasks in Lebanon to date. However, reflecting on the deaths of three TNI soldiers in Lebanon some time ago, Ace believes the government must evaluate TNI’s involvement in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Ace also urged the government to take a firm stance on the results of the UN investigation into the attack that caused the deaths of those TNI soldiers. Through comprehensive evaluation efforts, Ace is confident that the government will issue appropriate policies for the safety of the soldiers as well as the continuation of the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. “In principle, we at Lemhannas want to ensure that the safety of these security guardians is truly guaranteed,” Ace explained.
