Lemhannas: BrahMos cooperation strengthens Indonesia's defence industry

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Governor of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas), Ace Hasan Syadzily, assessed that cooperation between Indonesia and India in the procurement of BrahMos missiles can strengthen the national defence industry through technology transfer and human resource capacity building. Speaking in South Jakarta on Thursday, Ace said India is one of the countries with defence technology development capabilities, making this cooperation an opportunity to strengthen the national defence industry. “Military cooperation with India, I think, is a very good step in the context of strengthening national defence industry cooperation with India,” he said. According to him, the cooperation opens up opportunities for technology transfer so that the national defence industry can improve its mastery of defence technology. “Thus, we hope this cooperation becomes part of strengthening the national defence industry through properly followed-up technology transfer,” Ace stated. The contract for the procurement of supersonic cruise missiles between BrahMos Aerospace and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence was announced in the presence of President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during PM Modi’s state visit at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/7). On the same occasion, a cooperation agreement for the procurement of air-to-air missiles (AAM) between Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Republikorp was also announced. Both documents were part of 16 cooperation agreements announced during PM Modi’s state visit to Indonesia.
