The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has confirmed the readiness of national road sections in West Sumatra Province to handle the 2026 Eid homecoming and return traffic. One of the primary mobility corridors for the public, the Padang–Bukittinggi route, has been confirmed ready to serve travellers, including through the operation of the Lembah Anai route for 24 hours during the homecoming period.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that the government is committed to maintaining national road connectivity in West Sumatra, including at several locations previously affected by disaster. Hanggodo described the Padang–Bukittinggi route as one of the principal mobility corridors for the public in West Sumatra.

“We are ensuring that management of high-risk points, such as Lembah Anai and Sitinjau Lauik, is accelerated so that the public can travel during the homecoming period safely and comfortably,” said Hanggodo in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday (16 March 2026).

Overall, according to Hanggodo, the Ministry of Public Works, through the National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) of West Sumatra, is targeting all national road sections to be in optimal condition and pothole-free (zero pothole) by ten days before Eid. Routine maintenance efforts, repairs and improvements to road surface quality are being continuously carried out to ensure user comfort and safety.

“Specifically on the Padang–Bukittinggi section, management is focused on several strategic points previously affected by disaster, including the Lembah Anai area,” Hanggodo continued.

During the period from ten days before Eid to ten days after Eid, according to Hanggodo, the section will be operated around the clock to support the smooth flow of homecoming and return traffic. Hanggodo reported that progress on work in the Lembah Anai area has currently reached approximately 44 per cent, with bore pile foundation work at approximately 78 per cent.

“Throughout the Eid homecoming period, this route will remain operational to serve public traffic movement,” Hanggodo added.
