Lembah Anai Landslide Cuts Off Padang-Bukittinggi Access
A landslide in the Lembah Anai area, Padang Panjang, has cut off the main Padang-Bukittinggi highway. The incident occurred on Wednesday (24/6) at approximately 2 p.m. local time, with soil and rock debris completely covering the road at KM 66+700, temporarily halting all traffic in both directions.
Padang Panjang Mayor Hendri Arnis urged travellers to seek alternative routes for their safety. ‘We appeal to all road users to temporarily avoid the Padang-Bukittinggi route via Lembah Anai until the debris clearance is completed. Public safety must be the priority,’ he stated.
Hendri confirmed that the local government is coordinating with relevant agencies to monitor field conditions and expedite the clearance and repair efforts. He also called on residents to remain alert, noting that weather conditions across West Sumatra still pose a risk of hydrometeorological disasters such as landslides and falling trees, particularly in hilly and cliffside areas.
‘We hope the public will follow official information from field officers and not force their way through the affected location. Use available alternative routes until conditions are truly safe,’ he added. Emergency crews are currently working to remove the landslide material, and motorists from both Padang and Bukittinggi are advised to find other routes to avoid congestion and safety risks.
