SYDNEY (Reuter): Construction firm Leighton Holdings Ltd said yesterday its Indonesian subsidiary PT Theiss Contractors Indonesia in a joint venture with Kopnatel has been awarded an A$200 million telecommunications contract.
PT Thiess has a 45 percent interest in the joint venture.
Leighton said the contract, awarded by PT Mitra Global Telekomunikasi Indonesia, was the largest single contract of the A$925 million project for the implementation of a telecommunications network into Central Java by March 1999.
Australia's Telstra has a 20 percent in PT Mitra.
The contract requires the installation of more than 300,000 customer access telephone lines with work expected to be completed by December 1998. Leighton shares closed three cents lower at A$5.33 on turnover of 228,382 shares.
