Legislators want Sharon taken to court
JAKARTA: The United Development Party (PPP) plans to send a letter to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, demanding that the UN bring Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in front of the international tribunal.
"We are trying to collect support from fellow legislators," said secretary of PPP faction Endin A.J. Soefihara here on Monday.
Endin added that endless violence in the Middle East was mainly caused by Israel's violation of the peace talks.
He added that the military attack by Israel on Palestinian targets was not in line with humanity and the world order.
In a bid to end violence in the Middle East, the Indonesian legislators urged the UN to bring Ariel Sharon to the international tribunal for crimes against humanity.
As of Monday, the letter had been signed by four PPP legislators, namely Endin, Sukardi Harun, Rusli Ibrahim and Nurdahri Ibrahim. - JP
