Legislators set for African trip

JAKARTA: A number of legislators plan to travel to South Africa to obtain first-hand information on the truth and reconciliation commission there.

Golkar legislator Akil Mochtar confirmed on Tuesday that the visit would allow the leaders of the House committee charged with deliberating the truth commission bill to learn from the South African experience.

The South Africa-bound delegation will comprise Sidharto Danusubroto of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI- P), Sofwan Chudorie of the National Awakening Party (PKB) and Evita Asmalda of Golkar.

Akil said the House committee expected to finish the bill's deliberation in the current session, which ends on July 16. -- JP
