Legislators plan trip to Hawaii

JAKARTA: A delegation of six legislators will depart for Hawaii to participate in the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) meeting on terrorism from Jan. 6 to Jan. 9.

They are Sabam Sirait, Batara Gowa, Burhan Djabir Magenda, Iris Indira Murti, Effendi Choirie, and Herman Datuk Rangkayo.

Legislator Burhan D. Magenda told The Jakarta Post that the meeting would discuss efforts to combat global terrorism.

Commenting on public criticism over overseas trips, Burhan said that the conference was a important because it discussed a topical global issue.

"I have not received cash from the House' secretariat. I have to pay my own ticket," he said.

Previous APPF conferences were held in Chile (2001), Canberra (2000), Peru (1999) and Seoul (1998). --JP
