Legislators' performance
Legislators' performance
From Bisnis Indonesia
I am really sad to see the current attitudes of members of the House of Representatives who seem to be repeating the very same mistakes made by former president Abdurrahman Wahid's administration. As they tend to ignore good advice and constructive criticism, I am beginning to suspect and wonder if most of them are incapable of doing their job or are just opportunists.
Their attitudes have shown to us that they are not at all concerned or interested in paying attention to the priorities of this country. One example that highlights their lack of responsibility occurred when most House members didn't even bother to show up at the recent deliberations and drafting of laws on the Central Bank Liquidity Loan (BLBI), regional autonomy, oil and gas, environmental and monetary regulations. However, nearly all members were very enthusiastic about Bruneigate, Buloggate, Memorandum I & II and the Special Session.
It is not surprising at all if there are still many things left unattended or remain unresolved because the "honorable" members have failed to issue regulations that will guide others in managing this country.
The members should be broad-minded and open so that they know how to make Indonesia prosperous through economic and political stability.
As a citizen of Indonesia who wishes to have reliable and respected leaders, I fully support the idea of direct elections - right from the bottom to the top. Only then will we have leaders who will fight for the sake of the public.
