Legislators busy
Legislators busy
with lobbying
From Rakyat Merdeka
It is extremely ironic, not to mention embarrassing, to look
at the behavior of members of the House of Representatives. They
have occupied their very comfortable seats since 2001. Yet, up to
now, people have never heard of these legislators doing anything
worth being proud about. Making matters worse is that the people
put considerable trust in the political parties they voted for.
But the clamor of the people will be meaningless if their
representatives turn a deaf ear to it. Although groups of people
make special trips to the House to scream out their demands and
grievances, it has done them no good.
The question is whether legislators are capable of realizing
the people's aspirations. People no longer want to hear
legislators say, "We accommodate your aspirations first."
Isn't it more likely that the reputable institution has become
fertile soil for profits made from the word "officials"?
As a matter of fact, the legislators should be able to finish
their piles of work. Unfortunately, this work has been neglected
because these legislators are too busy with interparty political
lobbying.
They are so busy with their political lobbing that they seem
to have forgotten that fuel prices have been increased three
times this year. Furthermore, the nation seems to be
disintegrating, with chaos in a number of regions. There is
certainly a lot of work these legislators must do.
