Legislators avoid wealth reports
JAKARTA: Only 8 percent or 531 out of 6,905 wealth report forms distributed to members of legislative bodies throughout the country had been submitted to the Public Servants' Wealth Audit Agency (KPKPN) as of Wednesday.
Up to 281 of the 531 forms were submitted by members of the House of Representatives, which has a membership of 500 and 84 by members of the People's Consultative Assembly, Antara reported.
Another 47 forms were returned by members of provincial legislative councils throughout the country and 112 by members of regency legislative councils.
The small number of forms returned was possibly caused by a boycott by the Association of Provincial and Regency Legislative Councils, led by speaker of the Jakarta Legislative Council Edy Waluyo.
The legislators refused to submit the forms detailing their wealth and assets because KPKPN Law No. 28/1999 does not clearly mention the legislative councils. -- Antara
