Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a hearing with the Ombudsman RI, where the institution was advised to exercise caution following its recent activities.

This warning was issued by Zulkifli Anwar, a member of the Democratic Party faction within Commission II, during the hearing held at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (29/09/2026). Zulkifli began by expressing his appreciation for the Ombudsman’s recent work.

“I am the first to express appreciation for what the Ombudsman has done over the past few days. As a partner, or perhaps a senior, I have only one message: look after yourselves,” said Zulkifli.

Zulkifli suggested that there might be parties dissatisfied with the Ombudsman’s recent actions, warning the institution against falling victim to ‘santet’ (black magic/sorcery).

“Personally, I do not have much else to say, just look after yourselves. Do not let yourselves be hit by santet,” he remarked.

In the same meeting, another member of Commission II, Fauzan Khalid, also highlighted potential risks facing the Ombudsman, mentioning the possibility of terror or other forms of pressure.

“First, there is the possibility of terror from aggrieved individuals or institutions that may suffer negative consequences from your actions. That is the first possibility,” said Fauzan.

“Therefore, we sincerely hope that the Ombudsman remains truly clean and that the purpose of their actions remains clear,” he added.

It is noted that the Ombudsman RI recently uncovered luxury living quarters during a visit to the Class II A prison in Cibinong. In response to this discovery, the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas) has deactivated five structural officials at the Cibinong prison. These officials include the prison warden (Kalapas), the head of prison security (KPLP), the head of the guidance and education section (Kasibinadik), the head of the security and order section (Kasikamtib), and the head of general affairs.

The suspension of these five officials was announced by the Inspector General of Kemenimipas, Rudi Setiawan, at the site. Rudi inspected the Cibinong prison after being instructed to lead the investigation by the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto.

“Acting on the direction and orders of the Minister, we are the internal investigators for Kemenimipas. He has instructed us to collaborate with the Directorate General of Corrections to follow up on the findings presented by the Ombudsman team,” Rudi explained to journalists at the location on Saturday (26/09).
