Children must grow up in a safe digital space. Jakarta (ANTARA) - DPR RI member Amelia Anggraini views the existence of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) as a form of the state’s commitment to child protection. According to Amelia, quoted in Jakarta on Friday, through this regulation—which has even been complied with by Meta—the state is able to ensure a safe digital space for children, in line with the rapid development of technology and global platforms. “Children must grow up in a safe, healthy digital space appropriate to their age,” she said. Amelia then emphasised that the state’s presence in the digital space is not to hinder technological development, but to ensure that innovation proceeds alongside the responsibility of protection. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, digital platforms, and parents in creating a safe digital ecosystem for children. This good faith was welcomed by Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, as she stated in a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs office in Jakarta on Thursday (9/4) afternoon. “Today we are quite pleased to give appreciation to Meta, which oversees Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, which after the inspection carried out yesterday, on Monday last week, then showed a compliant attitude in aligning their product features and services with the law in Indonesia,” said Meutya. According to her, Meta has changed the provisions in the Community Guidelines on its social media platforms. Based on the Community Guidelines on Meta’s social media platforms, the Facebook, Instagram, and Threads platforms were previously accessible to children aged 13 and above. Now, the Facebook, Instagram, and Threads platforms in Indonesia can only be accessed by users aged 16 and above in accordance with government regulations.
