Legislator: Vehicle Tax Amnesty Proves Policy Sides with Citizens
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission C of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), August Hamonangan, believes the motor vehicle tax amnesty implemented by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is a policy that sides with citizens amidst current economic challenges. “I think this policy is very positive. On one hand, it can ease the burden on the public who are facing economic challenges,” August said in Jakarta on Wednesday. August invited the public to take advantage of the amnesty to pay their motor vehicle tax free from late payment penalties for the Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and the Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Fee (BBNKB). August expressed hope that the amnesty policy would run effectively and ease the burden on residents who will pay their vehicle tax. If its implementation runs smoothly, he suggested that the amnesty period be extended until the end of next year. “We encourage residents to pay their motor vehicle tax, so they can provide Jakarta with the revenue it urgently needs now,” he stated. Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government waived administrative sanctions due to late payment or deposit of tax owed for the Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Motor Vehicle Title Transfer Fee (BBNKB) for the Year 2026, from 1 June to 31 August. The policy was issued to commemorate the 499th Anniversary of Jakarta City and the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, as well as to provide convenience for the public to settle their tax obligations. “The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is providing the public with an opportunity to settle their vehicle tax obligations more lightly through the waiver of administrative sanctions,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), Lusiana Herawati, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday (1/6). She stated that the public does not need to apply for the facility, as the waiver of administrative sanctions is granted automatically by the system when payment is made.
